For many people, dance remains an enigmatic world—an obscure practice with which they do not identify. Yet for years, Giulia Di Guardo and Clint Lutes have been dancing alongside people living with neurodegenerative diseases, people with disabilities, older adults, physicians, healthcare professionals and caregivers. It is here, in this shared space, that inclusive dance finds its true purpose. It invites participants to create through a dialogue with bodies that do not always function as expected, and with forms of dance that few people want to watch. In All the Reasons Not to Dance, Clint and Giulia bring to the stage everything that does not move and everything that does not work.
For this new creation, Clint and Giulia seek to work with both experienced dancers and complete newcomers. Through a series of creative workshops, they will combine artistic exploration, questioning, lived experience and conversation, allowing the work to emerge collaboratively. Each participant brings a unique perspective on dance and a relationship to movement that is both unexpected and largely unexplored. Their contributions become essential to the creative process, grounded in participation, action and shared engagement.
Drawing on their extensive experience in contemporary, inclusive and participatory dance, Giulia Di Guardo and Clint Lutes embark on a creative process that seeks to question, provoke and reveal dance in places where it is rarely recognized.
